The Color
Diamonds are graded on a scale of “D” (which is colorless and the most rare) to “Z”
(which is very dark yellow to brown, not to be confused with canary yellow).
While diamonds may be virtually any color, those with “white” or colorless features
are the most in demand and greater in value because of their rarity. The larger
the diamond, the more obvious its color. Slight differences in color can cause
dramatic differences in value.
The significance of a diamond’s color on the stone’s price is an important factor
to consider when examining and selecting a diamond. The naked eye can not tell
the difference between three color grades in a mounted diamond. This means you
can buy an “F”, “G”, or “H” color diamond and not really be able to see the difference.
Diamonds in the “D-F” range are considered colorless and carry a slight premium.
Most diamonds sold are in the G through J range.
